Meet My Grand Kitty Nuggles

Meet my Grand Kitty, Nuggles. You may have seen a picture of him on Caturday Art about my trip to California. He is a very sweet kitty that my son has had since his twins were born, sometimes called Nuggley Buggely Boo Boo.  What’s with that?

The boys were premature and my son and his wife were concerned that the cat couldn’t be trusted with them. They just couldn’t seem to keep Nuggles out of the cribs. The next thing they knew here he was between them, paw on baby. A scene that kept repeating itself. Nuggles was obviously attached to the babies and rubbed on them.

Of course, like many cats, he had to have his 3 am run through the house. Almost every time I went to visit them, he did this right over my stomach in the middle of the night. All the comforts of home. And then there there was his cricket catching proclivity. He was always chasing crickets, and playing with them before they became dessert.

He loves the boys and my son, but he is mostly attached to my daughter-in-law and always seeks her out to cuddle or “trap” her on the sofa witnh his very warm body.

He traps me too when I visit. He definitely remembers me from visit to visit and loves being petted. Sometimes a little aloof at first, it isn’t long before he comes over and climbs into my lap and stays, and stays, and stays. And he cuddles and rubs me as well. I think he likes me.

Last night I got a rather upset call from my son, who couldn’t find Nuggles. He was afraid the cleaning lady had let him get out, but no one had seen him go out. They had already spent several hours calling him and driving around and around the block.

Other times when he gets out, he is at least back in the yard by that time. They had begun really worrying, since he is now an aging kitty, and were even beginning to think the worst, since they live just off a busy street. Fortunately, about an hour later, I got a text that the boy had been hiding in the house all the time. What a relief. Very thankful he was safe.  My Grand Kitty really is a very special boy.

  1. Grand Kitty Nuggles is truly handsome and obviously well loved. We have done the same thing to our humans and taken many years off Mom’s life worrying about us. It’s a city thing. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

    1. Nuggles certainly is welcome loved. His mom and dad were getting really worried about him because he’s not coming out of hiding was uncharacteristic. Mine do the same to me but at least I’m used to it.

  2. Oh that is such a relief that Nuggles was safe at home all along! It looks like Nuggles was a great baby sitter. Humans often worry about cats with babies but soon learn that we are gentle with them & protect them as if they are our own. Mew Mew!

    1. Yes, they were very relieved. Me too. Nuggles really was a good babysitter. I have another favorite photo of him pulling himself up to look inside the crib.

  3. Nuggles is the perfect grandcat! It is so cute that he enjoys spending time with the baby. He will make a terrific friend for those kids as they grow up. I 100% believe that pets help children to become better people in the long run. You can learn a lot about life and love from a kitty.

    1. Thank you. He really is another brother to the kids. They are very attached to him, as are we all. I agree with you. I think kids learn a lot about caring and compassion from being around and taking care of pets.

  4. Nuggles is a cutie senior citizen who seems to take his duties as babysitter and human snuggler VERY serious! I think that’s great – Cats are such special little beings! So glad Nuggles had not wandered off accidentally – that happened to me once very long ago with one of my cats and she came home five days later thankfully. They worry us to bits sometimes but oh – the LOVE!!

    1. Thank you. He tries to keep tabs on everyone, even though the boys are pre-teens now. We are really glad he had not wandered off. He used to be an indoor-outdoor kitty, but with him being older they decided to keep him in. He does sometimes get out, but they know when it happens. This time they had no idea, and were alarmed.

  6. Nuggles is beautiful, and sounds like such a sweetheart! We had a scare like that with our indoor kitty more than once. We never did figure out what her hiding place was!
