Happy New Year

Apples And Honey
Apples And Honey

Happy New Year! I have been busy this week. Thursday and Friday were Rosh HaShanah, the Jewish New Year, and I was busy cooking. There was very little help from the two kitties in my house who slept through it all when they weren’t sulking about the rain. My first image is of the Apple and honey, which is symbolic of a Happy Sweet New Year. I used Lunapic with the Watercolor filter.

Many people of European extraction use Apples and Honey to symbolize the wish for a Sweet New Year. Spanish and Middle Eastern Jews expand the number of symbolic foods to six or eight. The name of each food is a mnemonic for a different wish:  for prosperity, a sweet year, freedom from strife, and so on. I celebrate the latter tradition and have eight foods with its own blessing on my Rosh HaShanah table. This image is of my Rosh HaShanah table. I was using Lunapic, and here I used the Fairy filter.

Like I said, the kitties were pretty scarce for the cooking, except for the main meal of chicken. Then, they were front and center.  Otherwise, they were taking it easy. Here is Raja, relaxing on the bed. Typical. I used the Lunapic Dreaming filter for this.

Zoe mostly slept, too. But here she is in the brief moment when she was going bonkers. Is Zoe with her crazy eye kitty look. I used the Lunapic Space filter for that one. That is because she was all spaced out.

And this is my find of the week. My friend’s niece, Allison Selby, shot this photo of her nephew’s very polydactyl (all four paws) kitty climbing the screen while they camped out at her house to avoid Hurricane Irma. She kindly let me post the photo. I thought it was a real hoot. I used the Lunapic Abstract filter for this one.

And this is the original. The moment I saw Ally post this, I just had to ask her if I could use it.

I hope all of you have a wonderful Caturday and a Very Happy And Sweet New Year!

  1. Happy New Year! That looks like a lovely holiday table. I never knew about the tradition of dipping apples in honey. The space effect for spaced-out kitty is perfect… but my favorite is the cat climbing the screen! 🙂

    1. Zoe does manage to get into the nip on her own now and again. We have three plants outside. That last pic is such a trip, I just had to get my friends permission to use it.

  2. Hmm, I’m gonna have to figure out how to use Lunapic! Happy New Year, and Mr. Thumbs is just too cute. Please tell me that they aren’t considering declaw on that sweet baby.
