Solar Eclipse Party

I Wanna See The Eclipse Action
I Wanna See The Eclipse Action

It’s Wordless Wednesday and we aren’t exactly Wordless.  We had our Total Solar Eclipse Party, and Mommy wouldn’t even let me go out.  I was bummed.  I stuck my nose on the window.  Mommy had family and friends from three other places for this party, and we were stuck inside.  She said people would shoot fireworks and drive funny.  I don’t like booms, but I was still bummed anyway.

Mommy said everyone looked like they had 3D glasses on.  I don know what 3D is.  Is it like having real birdies?

There were no clouds in the sky and Mommy had some cool pictures.  She thinks people had a good time.   She took this picture of the shadows just before the eclipse was Total, and everything looks like little crescent suns.

Also, before Totality, she got a picture of the crescent sun.  It doesn’t look too crescent, because it was still bright.  But there is a secondary image of the sun in the picture that shows the crescent.

Mommy said that when the Eclipse was Total, it got really dark, almost like twilight.  She thought it was really cool that there was almost a  360° sunset.

And then it happened!  Lights Out!  The sun was totally blocked by the moon and Mommy said the beautiful corona was visible as a bright ring around the dark center.  It got dark in the house where we were.  I tried to see out the window, but couldn’t see the sun.  Raja couldn’t see  at all from where he was.  My peeps outside were all squeeing over the eclipse.  They were sooo excited to see the dark sun.  Some nasty people elsewhere were making booms and scaring us. And then the “diamond ring” appeared, that ring of corona flame studded with the bright jewel of the sun reemerging from behind the moon.  Mommy couldn’t get a picture of that, but she said it was beautiful.

Raja was unhappy that Mommy was keeping us inside during the eclipse, and he just moped.   He wanted to see the eclipse action.  Mommy promised to let us out after it got real light again.  And she did.  We were soo happy to finally go out.  She showed us the eclipse pictures later and we thought it would be cool to post them here.  We may even do some Caturday Art with some of them.

Now, everybody was happy and grateful for a good time at the eclipse party.  We got to finally go out, and my peeps had had a great party.  We got to have some of the yummy leftovers.  I think we can let mommy have another party.  Maybe she won’t keep us inside then.

    1. Mommy was really psyched and we had a good time too even though mommy didn’t let us out until after Totality. I didn’t think Europe got any of it. I’m glad there was some even though not Total.

  2. We had 80% totality here in Michigan, and I was prepared to be fairly ‘meh’ about it, but when co-workers broke out eclipse glasses and ‘boxes’, the spirit soared and we had a grand time! Got some coolio photos too, and was already playing in Prisma with them. It’s too bad you kitties were kept hidden, but really…cats are from outer space anyhow…you’ve all seen stuff that is way more fun than our little solar eclipse!

  3. Zoe, I can relate. I was left inside, too, during the “event”, but then again I never get to be outside on my own. You are luck you & Raja get to do that. Mom missed the event, ’cause it was too smokey for her to be outside. There are wild fires blowing in from other places that has been turning the sky white and not the kind of white that brings pretty lil’ flakies. Your momma’s pictures turned out cool! I hope she had a good time at her pawrty. Maybe the peeps should throw us a pawrty, Raja & Zoe just because!

    1. I could go wif having a kitty Pawrty. We would like dat. I’m sorry your Mommy couldn’t go outside because of smoke. Mommy has friends who drove from our place after the eclipse to southern Oregon for a Shakespeare festival. Their play last night was cancelled because of smoke.

  4. Thank you for the pictures. We had a partial eclipse here in Florida, but not like that. I’m sorry you guys didn’t get to go outside. Maybe they’ll have certified kitty glasses by the time 2024 rolls around.

  5. Very cool! I didn’t pay much attention this time around because I was too lazy to get my paws on the glasses, but in 2024 I’ll be in the path of totality so that will be exciting!

  6. I’m glad that you had a safe and happy solar eclipse party! It was quite the event. You got some great photos! Here in Michigan, the solar eclipse was only 80% complete. Manna and Dexter weren’t very impressed – they preferred to sleep through it.

  7. Whoa! You were in the line of action. We had 71% and it didn’t get dark but it got colder and windy. Did you need a special camera filter cos I heard the light could blind cameras too.

    1. It was pretty cool, too. There is supposed to be a total one in 2024 that heads north. Do you know if you get that one? I used a filter with my iPhone, but then read that the iPhone does ok if you don’t use it too much. My better pics are without the filter.

  8. It does look like your humans had fun watching the eclipse, Raja and Zoe! We had about 71% coverage here, and our male human said even that was pretty neat. Our female human watched it on TV. 🙂

    1. I think the most I had ever seen before was about 50%. This one started to get really cool around 70%. The shadows sharpened and then started to show crescents around 80%. I hope that next time you get to see Total.

  9. Love your eclipse photos! I had some neat photos of the moon crescents on a wall back in 2012. It was overcast here on the West Coast. The cloud parted partially and I was able to see the eclipse but no shapes.
Thanks for sharing these cool photos!

    1. Thanks Melody. We are on the west coast, too. We were afraid of getting a marine layer, but everything was luckily clear as a bell. A good thing the clouds parted for you at the right time.
