Oh that boy! Remember I told you about my wayward kitty boy, Raja, who had decided to have a Night On The Town, by staying out all night, driving us crazy? Well, I had initially thought that he had scared himself and was staying close. But No! The boy did it again three days later, and then again two days after that! He seems to have developed a taste for the night life. That is really crazy making.
It seems to have become a habit. I can’t let him do this. I started looking for solutions. I remember seeing a review for a pet locator on one of the other blogs, and I looked it up. Interesting, but a little expensive. Of course, now I can’t find the name of it. In the course of looking at other pet locators, I noticed some people have used “thing locators”, like you would put in your wallet or phone, to find their pets. Well, that seemed more reasonable price wise. I decided to try one.
After checking out a couple pet stores, I went to Best Buy and purchased a Tile, with a range of about 100 ft. The locator works just fine, and where the Tile is shows up on my phone just fine. The problem is that the sound it emits when called is a jarring melody, which scared the daylights out of Raja. Well, that’s not going to work. I need something different. I’ll look at other locators. Hopefully, I can remember the name of the one I initially saw reviewed, which had a range of 400 ft, so I can at least check it out. So, if anyone saw that review, let me know, so I can.
Anyway, in the mean time, I’m trying to find other ways to keep the little minx from going out at night. I hate the thought of keeping him in all the time, because he loves being outside. On the other hand, I want to protect him. I have been bringing him in much earlier than usual to prevent his roaming.
It occurred to me that if I picked up his dry food, he might stay close. (He is a Drive by Nosher. He rarely eats wet food, and eats a few crunches at a time all day.). This seems to work. He came inside about every hour searching for food yesterday. Of course, I finally decided it was time to stay in and I gave him dinner.
We will see how long this lasts. My answer for this crazy making kitty is a locator combined with getting him in early and some cold weather. For the time being, I am just thankful he seems stay closer when food is involved.

Hello. You could try using a device called a TRACKR small and light weight and have a good range. They use a downloadable app on your mobile phone and don’t cost a lot, assuming your cat doesn’t lose them that is.

I think I looked at those when I bought the Tile. Seems like it didn’t have as good a range, but it is worth looking at again. I can return the Tile to Best Buy within 14 days.

Thanks Brian, that boy will give me a heart attack. I tried the Tile on him again today without using the calling feature that made him jump. I know almost where he is right now. Of course, it’s on the other side of the fence and he has no interest in coming home. But at least I know sorta where he is.

Oh, I know how it is to want your kitty to stay close to home. He is…er…fixed, right? But sometimes male kitties prowl no matter what has happened to their…er…equipment. The locator should do the trick, or withholding food until a bit later than he wishes and he’ll come runnin’.

That’s my boy all right. He has a stubborn streak a mile wide. Trying the tile again without using the call feature, and I know where he is more or less. I want to look for something better, though that is hopefully more exact on location. Food does do wonders. The dish is up right now, and the next time he comes in, I’m closing the door.

One of my neighbor kitties wears a Tile! I had never heard of it before and was surprised by how big it is. Hope you find a way to keep the little cutie closer to home!

Thanks for stopping by. The Tile is what I bought. I don’t like the sound it makes to call him, but I can figure out more or less where he is. I’m still checking other options, though, that won’t put out such an obnoxious sound.

We give our kitties a treat when they come in for the evening. This has worked really well, though sometimes they try and pretend that coming in during the middle of the day should count too!

This silly boy is not motivated at all by treats, which makes it really hard for me. Picking up the food instead of leaving the dry down does seem to entice him to come in. Starting to being him in much earlier though. I haven’t been active for the past couple years, but I find I miss your linky for my gardening blog.
